Environmental Services – Cook

Reports to: Environmental Services Director

JOB SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Environmental Services Director, the Cook is responsible for
the preparation and cooking of meals and the proper cleaning and sanitation of the cooking and
eating areas.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• High School Diploma/Equivalent
• Valid Driver’s License
• Food Handlers License
• Current CPR certification (can be obtained upon hire)
Preferred:
• At least one year of cooking experience working in a residential, restaurant, or other
facility setting

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prepare and serve meals and food in accordance with planned menus and diet plans
• Clean the kitchen and dining room areas
• Clean, cut, and cook meat, fish, or poultry
• Cook food according to menus, special dietary or nutritional restrictions, or numbers of
portions to be served
• Ensure freshness of food and ingredients by checking for quality, keeping track of old
and new items, and rotating stock
• Ensure food is stored and cooked at correct temperature by regulating temperature of
ovens, broilers, grills, roasters, and refrigerators

• Clean and inspect galley equipment, kitchen appliances, and work areas to ensure
cleanliness and functional operation, including washing dishes and other eating utensils
• Apportion and serve food to facility patients, employees, or patrons
• Provide direction to one or more staff who assist in preparing and serving meals
• All other duties as assigned

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
• Strong understanding and demonstration of proper food handling, preparation, and
cooking
• Knowledge and ability to safely operate kitchen appliances and equipment
• Knowledge and ability to properly clean and sanitize dishes, utensils, food preparation
areas, and kitchen
• Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
• Strong attention to detail and organization
• Strong understanding and demonstration of professional boundaries
• Ability to work on effectively independently and with a team
• Familiarity with addiction recovery and mental illness terminology and treatment
